Hi,
Just got a new camera and want to buy an nice big (16gb) memory card to go with it, but before I do:
Does anyone know if my dell inspiron 1501 laptop (bought july 2007) with xp pro will read an SDHC card, and if not, is there a patch?
many thanks
Lx.

if it reads SD cards it will be fine, HC is just High Capacity. Of course if it doesnt you just plug camera to laptop, press browse on the popup and copy the files that way.
Simple
support.euro.dell.com will have drivers, anything for Bios/Chipset may be worth downloading0 -

I'd also suggest googling for the "Transcend" Class 10 16GB SDHC card mentioned in other threads -excellent value giving you 16GB and high speed for around £18, most other brands struggle to give you a slow speed 16GB for that price, I've had one for 3 months with my new camera and not had any issues at all0 -

Not necessarily true, some older SD readers have a 2GB limit, I know this because I have one.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
yeah, but the machine is from 2007 so i discounted that bit!0

Sorry being quick. Ive got a couple of Dells from then which work fine, one I needed some updates0 -
doesn't matter if your card reader doesn't work, you can plug the camera into your computer via the always added USB cable and use the camera as the USB reader.Survey earnings total 2009 £417, 2010 £875, 2011 £5740

Thanks everyone for your helpful advice,
looks like the sdhc will work, wasn't sure when SDHC started being supported by dell.
I know I can use the special wire, but with my phone/ previous camera loosing the blooming wire has been the bane of my life! much easier and quicker to stick the card straight in my laptop)
Didn't know about the faster "Transcend" Class 10 so thanks JasX will look that one out.
Have been amazed at the price of regular 16gb cards (around the £14-15) quid mark on play/amazon) makes the 512meg one in my old camera look a bit puny!

Thanks for the tip JazX: class ten for £16.45, bargain!0

Personally I'd go for 2 8Gb cards rather than a single 16Gb card.
Unless you're recording in HD, pictures don't take up that much room so you will take ages to fill it.
The danger is what happened to a friend who had 1k of pictures without transferring them to a pc and the card corrupted...0
