  • Mine has just packed up, the engineer I rang recommended Whirpool, and a local shop. I rang up, and he asked how much I use it, (everyday at least once) and also recommended whirpool. I bought a 1200 spinspeed from this shop, for 229 pounds. Cheaper than I could have got it on the internet, and they delivered it free, set it up and took my old one away!
Check out your local electrical shop. I'm really pleased with the machine, i's fast, quiet and does a really clean wash.

  • I had the same problem just before Christmas (the BEST time to have to buy household necessities, eh?) so I signed up to a free trial of WHICH online (free digital camera, then cancelled at end of January so no charges!) and checked out their info. a superb table of replies from washing machine owners asking simply 1) What make do you own, and 2) Would you be happy to recommend this make to your friends?
One of the top makes was Bosch, and I got a great deal from QED Direct after searching the usual Kelkoo, Pricerunner & other lists. Compared the various efficiency ratings and got a WFO2466 (A+ rated) The machine came with a 2-year warranty & cost £283.45. A further optional 3-year parts & labour cost £159 (10 monthly direct debit payments of £15.90) means total peace of mind for the next 5 years!
    Hope this helps.
  • Should have mentioned, the cheapest local deal on the Bosch machine at that time was £349, and that DIDN'T include delivery!!!
  • As recommended in another "I Wanna" thread a month or so ago, try

I held my nerve in the auctions and waited for a bargain. Managed to get a HOTPOINT WD420P 1200 SPIN SPEED WASHER DRYER AQUARIUS for £195 plus £30 delivery

It pays to snipe on these auctions as the bid incriments are about £15. I got in on the last monute of the auction and I was soooo chuffed

It just arrived yesterday morning and there are a few marks on the top (but as it's going under a worktop, who cares!!) but other than that, it's in A1 condition

I have an Ariston. And yes it broke down a month ago. When we rang them up to our joy we discovered that it automatically came with a 5 year parts warranty. My partner worked out that it was something major, so we paid them £90 to come out and fix it. Seems a lot for a labour charge, but we had a feeling that it was going to be an expensive one. They had to replace the whole drum (bearings etc...the lot). On the invoice / receipt it said that the cost of the parts fitted was around £250!

So before you sign up to any extra warranty, check out what automatically comes with the machine. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Hotpoint machines also come with the 5 year parts guarantee, and I have never had a problem with theur washers. The extended FULL guarantee is also usually offered at a lower price, because of this, mine only cost £89.00 To be fully guaranteed for 5 years. :)
