Real Life MMD: Should I pay the extra money?

  • I take it this "friend" is not a particularly good friend? By that I mean one you'd like to keep. If their friendship is of any importance to you at all I'd seriously suggest paying them back, in cash, exactly what you owe them.

Shame on you for even thinking of ripping them off in this way!

There's a lot of people on this thread assuming that because the OP needed to borrow, she is hard-up. Let me offer as a counter-example the only time I have borrowed money from a friend:
I arrived at the supermarket checkout, put my hand in my pocket for my wallet, and it wasn't there! No cash and no card! Seeing my look of horror as I searched my pockets, my friend, who I had just bumped into in the store, ofered to lend me a fiver, which I gratefully accepted. I actually paid him back as soon as I could get round to his, after getting home and finding my wallet in my other jacket, but I can imagine, had we been going down the pub, my offering to repay by buying the drinks/snacks.

If you owed money, you should have paid that back before even booking any meals!
That way all debts were cleared from the start, and when your voucher came along you could ALL have benefited from it, giving your friend a bonus/thank-you for lending you the money.
I'll be very surprised if your friend is willing to lend to you again.
Offer him the difference, explain & apologise.
