Restoring a DELL Dimension 5100

I recently had to pay DELL £36.00 to tell me how to restore the system to 'factory settings' after being hammered by a series of viruses (flippin Norton stuff!)
And even then I'd bartered the price down from £55.00, plus got them to throw in the discs that I might need in future - including Windows XP, as they don't send out discs with systems anymore.
If you want to do this, restart the PC, press control and F8 - tap F8 three times - at boot-up. You'll be taken to a fairly self-explanatory screen, asking if you want to restore. And hey presto! You've saved yourself some money.
If anyone can add to this for other systems, please do.
Because I didn't know how to do this before DELL explained it, and it wasn't in my manual, if anyone can add any detail to this please feel free.
Cheers

The atmosphere is currently filled with hypocrisy so thick that it could be sliced, wrapped, and sold in supermarkets for a decent price and labeled, 'Wholegrain Left-Wing, Middle-Class, Politically-Correct Organic Hypocrisy'.

I don't have any dealings with Dell so please excuse my ignorance, don't they have a technical support line? Or did they tell you they would have to charge you before they gave you the solution?"She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Sorry - should have said.
My PC is out of guarantee. So the price was not that bad compared to PC world etc. But for a 10 minute consultation it's a lot, plus I think it should be readily available to do anyway. The atmosphere is currently filled with hypocrisy so thick that it could be sliced, wrapped, and sold in supermarkets for a decent price and labeled, 'Wholegrain Left-Wing, Middle-Class, Politically-Correct Organic Hypocrisy'.0 -
Interesting! The Dell online manual for that model gives a different method.0

Claim back the money because you were told lies.0
