There's going to be several supermarkets doing Vat-rise free offers for a few weeks, just to get people in to make up the takings that were down because of the bad weather.

Unless your planning to buy a large vat-able (?) item, it's best to save up to take advantage of any offers.

  • I think I am doing fairly well but I like the idea of one really cheap meal a week. I used to do this (often soup and pudding) and have given up so that needs to be reinstated.

Cant persuade my family to go veggie but I am trying to include less meat in each meal.

I am going to be at home more in 2011 so its lots of bread making, cake baking etc for me. I already cook everything from scratch but there is always more you can do.

Once the evenings are lighter I will walk up to the local Co0p with the kids in the evening as they have some amazing reduced prices up there :D Good exercise and good on the purse too :D

Good idea - I need to lose all the babyweight (& my youngest is 8 :rotfl:) & I rarely use the Coop since I stopped working in a town that had a large branch. We do have a smaller one but it isn't near anywhere I'd pass by so I forget about it. Its about 30 mins away, so good exercise. Wonder how long it will take the kids to get fed up with all the walking...
& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin :D

menu planning is a must for me; though I think I'll be looking to Weezl and the cheap family meals for inspiration and ideas. Don't think I can get DH to eat pulped nuts & nseeds in oil on bread for anything but I'll look into adding seeds / nuts to HM bread.

We already love a fair few risottos so we'll be making that a regular feature of our menu (fairly cheap and satisfying and out LO likes them too - actually not much that she doesn't like:D) and cheap / cheerful things like veggie / bean curries will also feature heavily.

I'm going to make more of my veg patch and make sure that we actually USE what I grow (ok, what my dad grows in my garden for us:o).

I think I'll also shop online and keep a closer eye on things in the storecupboard - do I really need four different types of paprika?

    Good luck.

  • Speaking of risotto: did you see that Big Brands For Less were selling FOUR KILOS of Lloyd Grossman risotto rice for a quid before Christmas? I can't move for the stuff round here

I am going to meal plan and shop accordingly. I won't be caught buying whoopsies of (in particular) fruit that is too good a price to resist but which ends up sitting in my fridge for a week or more and then ends up in the bin !

I am going to make headway into clearing my freezer and then start batch cooking again at the weekend meaning I have some lovely meals ready at a moment's notice (well after a defrost and reheat).

I am going to follow the grocery challenge on here - set realistic budgets and stick to them.

I am going to (try) and give up alcohol for January and then limit myself to one bottle of wine a week (shared with my OH) and use up whatever spirits / beer I have left over from xmas before buying anymore.

I am going to stop walking round supermarkets *finding* stuff to buy and also stop visiting m&$ on the way home just because its been a bad day at work and spending quids on stuff I don't need !
  • Good to see majority will be making some big changes going into next year next week!

Keeping under £10 a week will be my main aim :)
