Start up progs

I am trying to improve the speed of a friends laptop and would like to know if all these start up progs are needed.

  • well you can right click on the sidebar and turn it off if you dont want it.

    Looks like go to control panel and removed all the pre-installed Toshiba carp that is not used, other that that i can see internet security and nero backup agent, so if you dont use nero turn that off too from the notification area.
  • You could run MSCONFIG (from start->run) and then deselect everything you don't want in the startup tab. This way if something isn't working properly after the reboot you can run MSCONFIG again and switch things back on at will.

    If you install spybot, under tools you can check out the programs that run at start up. There is an indication at the side as to whether this is necessary.
    You can untick anything you think is superfluous and re- tick late if necessary,
    All I have on mine are the basic windows programs, connection and the anti virus/spyware.
