Emergency New Boiler Needed! Argh!

Hi there. Can someone help me get through the minefield of getting a new boiler of the holiday period. We have been without heat and hot water since 6am xmas day - old ideal response 120 boiler had water cascading through it - its cactus, so a new one is needed.

couldnt even get anyone out in londnon on xmas day for less than £ 300 PER HOUR.

Feel a bit over a barrel. Blokey A came out yesterday and said he would fit a new Worcester Bosh 24i today for £ 1850 plus VAT but only if we committed to him there and then. Hadnt heard great things about the WB so was thinking we wanted a Vaillant. Have had a quote for a Vaillant Pro Tech 28 at 2150 plus VAT (this one hasnt even come to site so will he get here and suddenly up his price?). Local blokey has been round and wants to only fit a Viessmann - wont fit a Vaillant (!!).

So far have read that Vaillant is the superior product - but looks like to get one before the 4 Jan (when the VAT rises BTW!!!) is to pay over the odds....... what should we do - limp along (already sick and tired of not showering daily) and wait or just go ahead now.

Anyone got ideas on the Vaillant vs Viessman issue? Also what is reasonable cost of replacement??

Please help!

Like for like you need to have at least a 30Kw combi fitted to replace the response.

Could be worth a call to Ideal, as they used to offer a reduced price replacement because the response was proven to be such a bad and troublesome boiler.

Don't know if the still do this now though.

If you are going to pay over the odds now, you may as well wait for VAT to go up and get 3 proper quotes in, after all that will only add 2.5% to the job and probably not all of the job anyway.

anywhere near those prices quoted, in london, is a good deal.

    ps
i would have charged you 300 quid per hour too, on xmas day.
few years ago, i remember one chap being charged 900 quid for a burst pipe.
    in mayfair. saturday night.
    Get some gorm.

    OK. Thanks.

Why would you not go for viessmann?

So far 2 quotes - 1 the vaillant pro28 at 2150 plus VAt and the other the viessmann 30kw at 1950 all inc.

This is a minefield - every installer has a differing opinion. Any thoughts out there form MSE'ers?

Could just be needing a new heat-exchanger? Have you had quotes for repair.

Good evening: a boiler is only as good as the standard of the installation and the programme of annual servicing. The OH fits Vaillants (only the Plus range not the Pro),Viessmann (a fine product with 5 year parts and labour warranty if fit by Viessmann trained RGI) and Remeha as a budget option.

See more here. Btw...cheap quotes for London (make sure corners aren't cut).

    Thanks for your thoughts......
Finally went for a local man who is installing the vaillant protech 831 as we speak....... with a hot and cold flush, trv valves on all the rads (as they didnt have them being so old~) and a magnaboost the job has come in at 1800.
Gotta have some faith that this will all work out..... seven days without hot water or heating has been depressing.
    Thanks to everyone who replied.

Seems like a good deal, especially as he doesn't seem to be charging you any extra for installing on New Year's Day.

Just remember that on a £2000 job, the additional VAT rise will oinly be £50. It would therefore be prudent to wait and get three proper independent writtten quotes. In the big scheme, £50 is nothing to get the job done properly.
