No more spending as yet. Have just made my potato and carrot soup and used a bit of onion. As we don't really like onion i only use about a quarter of it. If it hadn't been for this thread and the freezing tips one i would have just flung the rest of it out but as it stands i have 6 parts of an ice cube tray full of chopped onion that i can use when making soup or sausage hot pot.

Just wanted to say thank you for all the ideas you are giving me.

Im not really one for cooking basically cause i work 2 jobs and don't really have the time but am going to try and make more of an effort even if its only on my one sunday off a month or even my night off to give something new a try.

Don't really eat fruit or veg (apart from carrots) so alot of the recipies sound good but have too many veggies in them for my liking :o must try harder!!!

Am working in 2nd job tonight which is next door to a tesco express so may venture in there to see what kind of reductions they have

Off to have lunch last nights lasagne, roast potatoes and garlic bread (will have a bowl of soup for dinner when i get home from 2nd job)

Did a big Tesco shop this morning and also popped into boots and Poundland. Total for month is now at £132.63. Seems I spent quite a bit today but should do us for about ten days. Did include lots to stock cupboards back up and a few whoopsies for the freeezer. Also picked up quite a few 2l bottles of milk from poundland which will keep up going for a bit. Not planning on shopping again until next Thursday at least although may need a few more bits of fruit before then.

Hi, I had my first online delivery from Sainsbugs for the year. I was really pleased that there were so many half price offers....just wish there were more reductions on fruit and veg rather than the carp that usually gets reduced!

Have just updated my signature....so far so good :D

OK, takes a deep breath and decides to jump in.

I'm finishing work in March so I have worked out a budget to stick to - I'm just posting a monthly figure because I know it's going to change for the first few months at least. I'm trying to spend cash as I always go over budget if I use cards.

My budget for January is £200.

I have bought all my supplies for this week except for one loaf of bread (£1.90) and have £12.00 left out of the £50 I'm allowed, so I am off to a good start, especially as i have bought dog food for the month.

I suppose I should say that there is just me and DH plus dog usually, but I do feed DD and B/f and DS and G/f regularly. I am trying to buy most of my veg in Lidl (son works for them but they don't give staff discount), I will buy most of my meat and fruit in M & S this month which might seem extravagant but I have 4 £5 off a £25 shop vouchers and also DH works for them and we get 20% discount so in fact the combination makes them reasonable.

Mr A home delivery arrived today so total for month now £175.80 which looks scary but cupboards and freezer are now full. I have taken out the rest of my monthly target in cash and am hoping this way I am not tempted to spend more on a card which doesn't seem like proper money. Also hopefully this will stop DH shopping for milk and spending £15 on other bargains!!!

    Good luck everyone:)

    hello everyone

I would like to join in this challenge, OH gets paid around the 15th of each month so will run 15th-15th of each month if thats ok.

My target is £250 for 2 adults, 2 children (15 and 11), 1 dog, 1 cat and 5 chooks. I will dig around the cupboards tonight to find a spare purse to take out money just for shopping and at the end of the month any spare will go in to my sealed pot.

I have been meal planning for 3 months now and it works so much better than before.
