Sharron- I would have thought so, it's just the way it has been killed that is different...? I get halal curries and nandos (because of the area I live in it is automatically the meat they use) and it tastes the same as normal chicken

Thanks, I suspected as much but just wanted some reassurance :D

I'll take a drive up to the Mr T's which luckily has a section for Halal meat and if they don't have it i'll try the online - going to buy four I think!

  • Hi

I've never joined in officially before, and not been on the OS board properly for a long while, but i really want to get my finances in order again as the last few months have been expensive with a new kitchen and some expensive vet bills to look forward to.

I know from records i kept last year that i spent about £200 last January. So, i want to set my target as £190.

This will cover from the 1st-31st, and is for 2 adults, a 4yo and 2yo, and 2 cats if my poorly one makes it. (currently at the vets for monitoring for failing kidneys. :() My 2yo is still in nappies, and i have in quite a good stock of nappies and wipes, and prescription cat food. I really need to do this and better if possible as i am dreading the bill on top of decimated savings, and we also have car MOT and house insurance to pay, so i need to get this from somewhere.

This will cover all our meals as DH takes pack up and the 2 DSs eat lunch at home with me. Soup is likely to feature heavily, and toasties.

Good evening all and welcome to all the newbies :D

Well I went for a trudge through the snow again today..I do love doing that :j-we needed a new mouse for the PC and well, whilst I was there I picked up a few bits... did I NEED them... NO :o -but in my defence :rotfl:-it would have been rude to pass them by..honest :D -so I got...
    • 4 packs of activia intensely creamy (my guilty pleasure) -on promo at €1.49 a pack
    • 1.2kg minced steak €4 -split into 3x400g -2 in freezer and 1 made into chili
    • a rather yummy looking 600g Argentinian rump steak for €3 -cut into 3 and frozen -will make yummy stir-fry
    • and 6 thick kasseler steaks whoopsed to €1 (imagine a cross between gammon, smoked bacon, ham -but its a pork loin :p
so another €14 BUT honest I am not going into a shop again before monday and then it will only be fruit/veg/milk...
Hubby took 1 of the spare remoskas to work when winter kicked in so it makes life a lot easier and as I have masses of bread flour in I can see plenty of calzones being the order of the day once he is back at work on the 4th -until then he is coming in quite useful at eating up the odd bits n bobs from the freezer :T
Right now we still have a good 2ft of snow here and more predicted :Tso I am oooh soooo greatful for my huge stores of food,,
Anyway thats enough blah blah blah from me...
here is to a wonderful 2011 for us all :j

I really hope this question doesn't offend anyone because I'm asking it honestly and without any prejudice - can anyone tell me if Halal chicken tastes the same as 'normal' chicken? Mr T's have them for half price but I've never bought it before. :o

    Thank you
    x

Hi hun - yeah Halal meat is just slaughtered differently and you tend to find that halal meat you get more for your money with.
If you can find a local halal butcher you'll be quids in - that is if your OK with the etheicality aspect of the way its slaughtered.
