How easy would it be to build a website?

I am setting up my own company while studying at University, so funds are limited.

The company itself does not have any overheads, running costs just the time i put in myself!

I am needing a 20ish page website made with a CMS built in to change text/images/colour here and there when needed! The site will have a template that will be used on each of the 20 pages! And just text and images will change on each page.

Could i build this myself? I have pretty basic knowledge on building/constructing websites.

Any helps, tips, ideas, information would be great!

  • I'd probably recommend a cheap hosting company like GoDaddy.com (Economy Hosting £30/year) and, if you want to use a CMS, then within their hosting admin section select to install WordPress.

    Hi,
I would go to 'weebly' (do a search) and create a new website on there.
I have used the free sites on there for a variety of personal and business uses and then purchased a web-domain separately if required (though one is included on the site).
You can SEO it to your hearts content and expand and design etc. as required. Even add an integrated e-commerce dimension.

Let us know how you get on pls.
    regards Guy

  • I managed to put together a 60 page site whilst at uni 10 years ago.. so i'd say it is possible.

I eventually found this product which helped making other sites : http://www.adobe.com/products/contribute/

Means you produce template files in dreamweaver, then build your site and manage it with Contribute. It removes the need for any scripting to run behind your CMS

Completely free for the first 2 years. Less than £10 per year thereafter.

Look at Joomla for your CMS, it's a bit more powerful than WordPress (allowing all sorts of extensions, membership levels, billing etc) and is free. You would only need a pretty basic web host to host your site (unless it is going to get really busy - but then you can afford to upgrade)

I was going to recommend Noomle lol

It works on the same kind of principle, free for as long as you want it and upgradeable with a $5 contribution every 2 months to get extra features.

Whypark is also one of those I have heard lots about yet I do not have a domain that might use it :)

Anyways, as Paddy says you only need a very basic hosting account to start and simply throwing money at companies while you are learning is a waste...instead, invest that money in a GOOD domain name.

And yes, you can build it all yourself but there is a learning curve, all you need to do is have a good plan and then it will be done :)
