I'm not saying the birds mind, just for the quantity and quality of timber you will get from the time spent salvaging from pallets is it really worth it?
The maximum width you can get is 100mm of a maximum 500mm length. Then creating a lot of "waste" from what was a good usuable item. Take the time to source and collect the pallets, then salvage the good bits.
I guess I might misunderstand what you are trying to make, maybe you should post a photo?
I'd thought sourcing some 150mm x 19mm sawn fencing timber would be much more effiecent and cost no more than £1 a metre. Contacting you local timber merchant and asking what they have off damaged packs as the way of a donation might be the solution.0
