Hiya
I have had a look around the site and done a search but im not the best at all this stuff so hopefully no-one will jump down my throat
my oh wants a new tv - we used to have a samsung 40 inch lcd which was fine i thought but anyway - we went to the shop today and he likes the thiness of the led tv's (i think he wants to stick with samsung as it always been good to us but willing to change brand if anyone has any recommendations)
basically i have a few questions for people who know more than us (although thats not hard)
a) are the led tv's really worth the money?
b) does anyone have any recommendations or advice relating to models - budget is max £800
c) are there any models or brands to avoid as there are alot of deals on atm and i dont want to get fooled intot he wrong one?
d) what would you do - £800ish on an led tv or £400ish on an lcd tv which is decent enough
we only really watch normal tv channels - are not advanced or techie in any way, he watches dvds but no bluray as yet, will be moving soon so not sure whether freeview hd is important to have built in or not?
as i said im totally clueless and would really like some help but was worried about posting in case i got ridiculed lol!!
thanks for your help in advance

They are not LED TVs. They are LED backlit LCD TVs. In other words they are all the same. It's just the light behind the screen that is different.
Personally a £400 LCD (CCFL backlight) would be my choice. Unless being really thin is important, LED backlit TVs are not worth paying extra for in my opinion.
A good explanation of the difference between the 2 technologies is in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDAirRyMj34&feature=player_embedded#!
Samsung make some good TVs, so you are likely to find what you want in their range. Panasonic and Sony are also worth a look.0 -
If you have no HD viewing option there doesn't seem any point changing the TV ?
But we bought my parents the LG 32LE5900 for xmas. Its an LED LCD, the picture in Standard def is really good and it also has Freeview HD built in.
LG also do a 40" model too. That might suit you.Never buy a stupid dwarf -
Its not big and its not clever.0 -

£650 on a Panasonic TX-P42G20B from Richer Sounds which is a THX certified display Plasma with Freesat HD and Freeview HD built in as well as the ability to add a USB hard drive and use it to pause and record TV. As you're watching normal TV, upscaling of standard definition is important and this TV excels at it.
It'll beat any LCD or LED TV for picture quality.0 -
I got my daughter a Samsung LED backlight 32" for her bedroom and she loves it it will plays video from usb and photos0

I bought a Sony LED http://www.johnlewis.com/230887957/Product.aspx to replace my LCD Panasonic. It has a far better picture and well worth the money to me. I saw a Samsung 32" at £450 in John Lewis today and was stunned by it - by far the best picture I've seen both in HD and normal digital - I normally prefer Panasonic, but this beat them on picture quality and price0

If you are going to buy a new TV then go for the LED TV's as pictures are clearer and consumes less electricity compared with regular LCD TV's.0

Hammyman, assume you have this TV? any bad points as I've been on the edge of getting this TV for a while now...... thanks!0 -
LED backlit TVs aren't that much more expensive than standard LCDs now. There is a benefit to them, but I'd certainly advise comparing it to a normal LCD to see if you think it's worth it first.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -
The led backlit have come down but you still pay more for one. They have advantages, mainly they are very thin and use less energy0
