Hi all, we've had no water since Xmas Eve. We thought we had frozen, but it isn't, then we thought the office next door may be the problem but again this is not the case. Besides, we have been above zero since Sunday morning. Our LL is in NZ so we have to deal with this. Waterboard are useless. Finally after an hour on hold they said we could have some water delivered, but that we must just be thawing slower than everyone else. Explained, patiently, nobody else had been frozen. After 3 less patient attempts to explain that we are the only ones in the area to have gone off I still wasn't getting anywhere. Then they rang back to say they wouldn't give us water as there isn't a mains burst . I then said I would be contacting my MP as I felt we had waited long enough with no assistance, and maybe then someone would do something! They rang back immediately saying the real reason we couldn't have water as they were short of it because of the weather. I explained that this was less of a problem than the fact they want check what the problem is. I was told they had marked us as an urgent job and the local depot would call us today. Nothing has happened. Anyone got any ideas what we can do?
Still looking for the plot...... Anyone seen it???

You don't actually say whether you have identified the problem to be within the property, with the incoming mains from the street or the actual supply in the street.
Anything from the stopcock in the street is yours (well your landlords) responsibility, so you should do some basic checks first0 -
Hi thanks for reply. It is outside the building as had everything checked inside. LL is on the other side of the world at the moment, but have another contact who sorts things out on his behalf. I guess they should be finding out about the pipe from the road in to the house then? Am really worried now, as we have already had 5 days of this, and feels like there is no end in sight.

'Outside the building' doesn't means it's not your responsibility. After 5 days I think you need to identify where the fault is so you can take the necessary action. Complaining to your water authority or MP will be of no avail if the fault is on your landlord's side of the supply.
Is the supply metered? If so, have you monitored it to see if there is any flow at that point? If so, then it's not the water authority's problem. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Hi Macman, no it isn't metered. Have emailed the woman who is looking after tenancy in LL's absence and asked that she look into it. I sent her the info I found online about it so hopefully they will do something. I am just desperate to know it's being dealt with iykwim? I think maybe we need to move out for a few days while it gets sorted. Might be a bit less stressful!
Thanks for your reply

its very rare for the mains to be frozen below ground. therefore its not the water companies problem.
much more likely to be inside or under the property.
99% of cases will be within the property area.Get some gorm.0 -

Hi, thanks for reply. Turned out to be a fault with the connection to the mains. Water company fixed it this morning. I really hope others get their supply back soon.Still looking for the plot...... Anyone seen it???0
