Having searched the 'net i found that this machine has mixed reviews so for the money you take a bit of a chance but if you get a good one then this is a good deal.

Savapoint are pretty good to deal with by all accounts so any probs will result in an exchange or money back.

I bought one of these when sainsburys mispriced them at 99.99 2 years ago.

never worked properly. Clock had a mind of its own, eventually completely packed up reading any type of disc after 13 months. phillips didnt want to know. :(

£50 is cheaper than what they wanted to repair it though so a great deal if it works for a year

It's philips, will it last a year?
    Nice to save.
  • My mum & dad have had one of these for 2 years and never had a problem with it. Worth a punt for £50.
They dont use it all that often but we have transferred our video camera footage of our kids onto dvd and it worked fine.
I've had philips tellys for years, in fact the one in the main bedroom I had when I was at uni and thats 15 years ago!!! Still works fine.
Jeepers that makes me feel old!!!
  • I am with the first response above. I have had one of these machines for just over a year and it has never worked correctly. Will record a programme and on playback will give up after 38 minutes every time, constantly freezes up and has to be turned off and on at the mains. I never use it now, it's so unreliable I have given up on it.

I have updated the software as advised on the Philips website and it has not helped.

Buy only if you want to spend £50 for a silver box to sit under the telly. Personally, I'd get a few more pounds together and buy something else.

I also bought mine when it was £99 @ Sainsburys. Mine never worked 100%.

About 40% of the time i change channels with the Sky Remote (And the recorder is in standby) - the Philips likes to turn itself on, and eject the tray, which means the tv flicking automatically to the recorder!

Was very annoying, and now its being used in the kids room as a simple dvd player.

Also bought a Philips DVDR65 i think its called, was useless too..

Me too, had the machine a few months, tried all of the firmware updates and they never solved the problems, the machine was a useless piece of junk, it never recorded a programme from beginning to end... wouldn't touch it with a barge pole, replaced mine with a Liteon machine recommended to me by Edinburghlass and its been reliable and good quality recording.
  • I too got one for £99 two years ago. It's used often and I've never had any problems with it. Seems like luck of the draw if you get a duff one or not.

I had a Philips Dvd recorder as well with a built in surround sound system worth about £600 from new. Fortunately i didnt buy it, i won it in a competition. Gave up the ghost after about 15 months. Didnt recognize discs and came up with an error when recording anything. Also bought a dvd/combi for sons birthday which did exactly the same thing 2 days after the 1 year guarantee expired. Called Philips who said it was just a coincidence. Personally i wouldnt buy anything else from Philips because of their "couldnt care less attitude". Looked on ebay recently and there were loads for sale on there with the same problems.
