DFS Lied and appear to have added PPI. Advice Please

Hi all,

We got some sofa's from DFS October 2009, it was a no interest for a year then 6 monthly installments.

My partner and I went through all the questions with the rep which have been ransferred onto our invoice I have infront of me now.

q1. Would this loan be a concern if my income was affected - NO

q2. Do you have any existing cover or other resources to protect this loan if suffering loss of income. - Full pay when off work YES - Full For Ever - Life Cover YES -

q3. Additional cover - to prevent undue hardship would you be interested in securing PPI as an additional protection in event of accident, sickness or unemployment - HE TICKED YES - - - Bearing in mind i told him I work for my parents buisiness and it is sound state and i would never lose my job or loose pay.

q3. You have indicated that you have adequate means in place to protect the payment of the loan and that you do not wish to rely on this, for sickness, unemployment.. Whilst we do not recommend it, you have chosen to take out the PPI as aditional cover - TICKED

q4. if this box is ticked you confirm you require optional PPI - TICKED

q4 - If your PPI policy remains in place for the full duration of your loan the premium paid by you will be £177.50

So I am very confused about this, clearl I never wanted it.

The Invoice states Order Total £1420, but it says 6 monthly payments will be taken from 12/10/2010 each £266.24. So they added the £177.50 on to it.

Im lost, does is mean by q4 that if i cancel now i dont pay the remainding PPI, or is it too late. I know I should of read into this deeper when I got it. But I really think this is unfair and not right.

Is this a case to reclaim the PPI I've paid already?

Please advice.

THANKS

    Hi there

I'm sure there have been some dealings with these on this site somewhere and hopefully they will post up of their own experience.

However, if you believe it was mis sold, then give it a go on the reclaiming, you pursue the ones who set up your policy from the start, complete the reclaiming questionnaire which replaced the template letter on this site, or write a letter in your own words by giving your reasons on why your making the reclaim, request the refund of all you have paid of the PPI plus interest and confirm they have 8 weeks to give a decision.

Keep copies of all you send and receive in case you need to go back to the case at some point.

    Good luck.

  • I wil ring the PPI company now as Im still paying for it untill march and see what they say...
  • Called them and they cancelled future PPI, so I've had to call DFS directly to sort out what has been paid already. The rep will ring me back who sold me the sofa's.

    Hi there

Just make sure they don't try fobbing you off on the phone, if your unsure about anything, just ask them to send in writing as you have to discuss matters with your partner as well.

    Good luck.;)

As di said, dont let them fob you off, if they dont play ball tell them you will go to fos.
  • well, DFS said that it was an optional PPI, that could of been cancelled anytime before the payments started, and that I signed the agreement. I told her I was never asked to read anything before I signed, because he did it all on a hand held computer. She went on about a service agreement and if i call the finance company they will cancel it, but what has already been paid will not be refunded.

Do I have a case here?

Before the payments started we had the whole amount of money saved for it, but i thought might as well let them take it month by month instead of giving them it all, better in my bank than theres, but its cost me to do that cause of the damn PPI.

    What do you think?

    Hi Simon

Is this in regards of the telephone call you were waiting for today?

As you did not know much about the product and had nothing in front of you to read - in regards of this product, then maybe you do have a case.

Normally if you cancel sometime after, for example the cooling period was for 30 days, and if you cancel after that time, then what normally happens is they will cancel on written request (in my opinion I would ask them to cancel in writing) and not verbally and keep a copy of the letter you send.
And no refund is due, but if you go for the reclaiming with the reasons you have for being mis sold, then all you have paid, plus interest would be due back to you.

    Hope that helps.;)

  • hi,

make it quite clear to DFS that you intend to go to the FOS with your complaint if they do not uphold it,

it will cost DFS £500 if you go to the FOS so it would be in their interests to settle with you and give you a refund.

    cheers
I'm proud to say that the banks no longer take money from me after becoming debt free
