But the FS 30 only has a 8x Zoom, and no HD Cine!

The FS30 is a good camera for the price. My Pentax has a 3 inch screen, I would not like to go back to a smaller screen. 2.7 may be enough but size does matter, or so my wife tells me <LOL>

In the world of compact cameras 2.7in is still big. I really don't think you'd be disappointed with this.

Thanks Stompa for the info re the internal battery... that could very well be what has happened, as it isn't only the lens that won't work (which could be explained by a knock or grit), but the camera doesn't even work on picture playback, which bypasses the lens completely. I'll definitely look into that.

Also thanks to David mt83 - I had briefly looked at the fs30 but discounted it because of the smaller zoom and the fact that it doesn't have a leica lens, so it felt like a step backwards compared to my TZ4. Having said that, it is true that I don't need the bells and whistles of the TZ8/9/10 - I don't shoot video with my compact, and I have a DSLR for when I want to get technical. I really only want the compact for taking decent quality pics for sharing by e-mail and facebook, and making postcard sized prints - but I still want enough resolution to be able to crop and generally tinker with the pic before releasing it to the general public! So I've been back for another look, and I must say on second impressions the fs30 looks like a nice piece of kit.

One thing though - I can't find the £30 cashback that you mentioned. I suspect this only applies to the TZ10, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

    Thanks for confirming that.

Now for the next numpty question........

Any idea how I go about sourcing a ML-421battery? (This is the second internal battery on the FZ4, the sort that looks like a pill). I've done google searches but am drawing a blank so I suspect I am missing something obvious...

Very true and you will not miss what you never had, but IMHO 3inch is a BIG improvement over 2.7inch. Go into a shop and try it for yourself.

Ultimately it depends on what OP wants and what her budget is?

    Thanks for your post Daisy,:A

It gave me the idea to pop into John Lewis to compare what is currently on the market.

I looked at and tried a few manufacturer's models. Ended up buying a customer returned TZ10. I got it for £179 because the box was damaged and still got the £30 off deal. At £149 it was too good a bargain to pass by. I have taken a few snaps and the pictures are pin sharp on maximum zoom.:T

Anyone got a recomendation for which SD card to buy?
