  • How about imagining you are going around an art gallery looking at and admiring pretty things but like in a gallery, you can take pleasure from viewing them without having to take them with you!

    hi,
i am a newie here,i really want somebody to give me some ideas of how to restrain myself from buying things? it's so hard for me. when i go shopping. i just always buy something useless thing home. like clothes, when i fitting it, i like it a lot.but after buying home, i didnt wear it any more cuz i found it hard to match to other clothes, and many other stuffs i bought, every month it ends up the spend out of my salary.:( i feel really frustrated of my bad habit, but i just dont know how to restrain myself from buying things when shopping.
sorry my english isnt that good for reading, but i do appreciate you guys give me some ideas.Thank you!:)

As has been said what you need is goals

eg: I think you should go through your wardrobe and identify all the extra items you need to make everything usable.

anything you can't think of a time you would wear it no mater ehat else you bought get rid.

The next task is to find thsse items for a set budget, so if you need a pair of green shoes to go with the dress that you have never worn make that a shopping goal, set a price and search on-line and the high street till you find it at the price you set yourself(the lower the price the harder it will be to spend the money).

ONLY buy stuff on the list.

Charity shops are a good place to shop you get more for your money.
  • i used to spend to cheer myself up , but now i think to myself " will buying this make my life any better ?"

i think the main problem of me is i dont have a goal of saving money, like my parents have house, so i dont need to worry about the housing staff, i always think i can use my money as i want.

Why not use the money more positively? Whenever you visit your parent, give tips to the staff if they are providing good service. Doesn't need to be big tips, just, say, a £5 note when the butler cleans your new shoes or £10 to the maid for getting the temperature of your bath just right.

I suffer terribly from this too. I also find that putting payments on your card makes it easier to buy something as you just don't see the green stuff leaving your hands. The only way to truly stop yourself is to stay at home. No amount of putting money aside in a special savings account will stop you from spending - you'll always find a way.

And you really do have to shop, make sure you make the most of the sales!!

Trouble is that the old stuff simply won't break down.

Treated myself to a new FST last year and had to take the old, still working, B&W one to the tip (only joking but old Sony one was about 20 y/o).
    .

The very old ones used to break down all the time, the medium to old 10 - 20 years seem to last forever.

Not forgetting that occasionally there are actually bargains on offer, TESCO - three cases (15 cans) of Boddies £20 :beer:that would have cost £60+ fifteen years ago.

Become a hermit and never leave the house

    Problem solved
Faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.
  • Yumi - there is great advice on here, you need to find something else that gives you the buzz that buying has been giving you :-)

Maybe sell the stuff that you no longer wear or have never worn on ebay - see if you can get that same buzz out of the money you make instead of the money you spend!

Have a goal maybe a treat with the money like a spa day or exercise classes or save for something you would love to have.

But mostly know you need to have some fun and spend some money just not all of it, set yourself limits and stick to them by whatever of the above methods works best for you.

Have fun though if you feel deprived you will be back at square one and will buy more clothes you don't need to make yourself fell better!!
