    Puppy is cute...I'm not a linux buff, only use it occasionally when I need a live CD, but the puppy logo is soooo cute :)

    linux ubuntu is pretty easy to get on with - and probably one of the wider used and has quite a big supportive community.
    as for laptop vs desktop - like what other people above have said, the only real advantage a laptop has is its portability

    Yeah, I know, ;), I was wanting to see what albert s had to say.

    It will be pretty difficult, not for the faint hearted, to get regular Ubuntu to work on a 10yo pc.

    I just get a bit fed up with the blanket "stick Linux on it", without qualifying the statement.

    Just got my hands on a similar PC, was ME, 128MB ram.

    Ubuntu won't even load. XP installs and runs.

    But I have other plans for it. :)
