linux ubuntu is pretty easy to get on with - and probably one of the wider used and has quite a big supportive community.
as for laptop vs desktop - like what other people above have said, the only real advantage a laptop has is its portabilityDon't try to teach a pig to sing - it wastes your time and annoys the pig0 -

Yeah, I know,, I was wanting to see what albert s had to say.
It will be pretty difficult, not for the faint hearted, to get regular Ubuntu to work on a 10yo pc.
I just get a bit fed up with the blanket "stick Linux on it", without qualifying the statement.
Just got my hands on a similar PC, was ME, 128MB ram.
Ubuntu won't even load. XP installs and runs.
But I have other plans for it.Move along, nothing to see.0
