The mines were closed down by north sea gas initially and then the CO2 reductions targets
The dash for gas, on reflection maybe we should have sauntered instead and saved a bit

Unfortunately in the case of nasty disputes, often the macho employers are at least as much to blame for not meeting in the middle.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. Undoubtedly. They should grow up too. The blame doesn't only lie on one side and industrial action costs firms just as they cost workers.
However I think some of the current disputes are ludicrous and working practices do need to change in order for organisations to stay in business/relevant/cost effective/competitive.Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? ASLEF members wanted the equivalent of around £800 to drive a tube for 1 day on boxing day. Good on LU for telling them to shove it.0

it really is a 'yes' or 'no' .
In some cases no, in some cases yes. In the above example definately no.0 -

There are definitely preferable ways to settle a dispute, I quite like this one.

thank y'all so far for the responses. I really am interested in listening to the views of the board on what can be something of an emotive subject.
tube drivers decided to take the day off on boxing day due to a dispute over 'manning' levels; a day when most look forward to being away from the grindstone. it seems - on the face of it- that transport for london have played fast and loose on an agreement struck a few yrs ago, but the standstill got peeps aplenty into a state of apoplexy. many have taken the view that bob crowe's boys have struck again (except this is an ASLEF dispute); hardly anyone on various sites has questioned the role of TFL.
I'm not trying to cause a division; I'm just trying to evaluate how peep's opinions are formed - the d.mail can't be responsible for everything, surely!0 -
In todays world of worker protection under the law, no.
Industrial action has little use any more, beyond providing a platform for militant workers to jeapordise the viability of the company they work for. The BA strike is a good example.
Or in the case of public service strikes, to try and extort the taxpayer.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

Bit confused over the manning levels issue. I thought a tube only needed one driver. Are TFL trying to use less than that?0
