Hi folks,
I've just bought my first house and I'm due to move in on 11th Feb 2011. I'm currently renting a house and my contents insurance renewal is due on 11th Jan 2011. I'm hoping to have both houses running for a week after the 11th Feb to allow me to have a new bathroom put into my new house.
Does anyone know where I could get contents insurance cover for just a month, or 5 weeks? I don't want to renew and then have to cancel because I suspect they will charge me a big administration charge, as insurance companies tend to do.

You will have to renew in my opinion but there should be no reason why you could not transfer the policy (for a fee and premium adjustment).
All insurance contracts are for one year unless otherwise stated.0 -
Just renew or shop arround for a new years cover at the current address, then transfer to the new when you move in. Check prices for old and new addresses. Best to up your sum insured for when you move to account for new purchases over the comming months.
If you have bought a free-hold property you will ofcourse also need buildings cover, in which case it is probably best to just renew the current contents, budgeting to cancel and take out a new joint policy for the new home.
Good luck!0 -

I have seperate buildings and contents insurance because I have always found it to be cheaper than combined policies.
It is always worth checking to see if this is the case and not automatically assume a combined policy will be cheaper.0 -
