I think that you would be better off buying the one in your original post.

Your old Dell probably has plenty of life left in it if you backup your data and restore to factory settings https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2436849

Thank you closed - that is exactly what my OH says. He wants to restore it to factory settings, but I am not too happy about it in case it just goes kaput.

It has been running slower and slower over the past few months. I did ask for advice a couple of months ago because the CPU usage is always pretty high and whirring away. Trouble is I am not very technical and just bottle out of doing anything about it:o

Is it quite a simple thing to restore to factory settings? I don't have a disk or anything with this Dell, but presumably there is information about it somewhere.

I posted in your last thread, still waiting for the hijackthis log.

If you are worried about data, backup first.

Follow the advice in the link first, if it doesn't work, look into factory restore (which is simple, press a key combination at boot, 10 minutes later done, but wipes your data), but for the sake of an hours effort, it's worth trying.

Just out of interest, if it is wiped and then I reinstall most of the stuff, won't that cause the same problem?

Also, please could you remind me how to do the hijack log and I will then post it.

I shouldn't be such a wuss with computers.

Kaspersky also sent me loads of instructions of things to do, but it was just way too technical and complicated. I am sure it has got worse since I installed Kaspersky 2010 version.

installing kaspersky has probably made your commit charge worse, what is it now? uninstall it, replace with avast

startup stuff is what causes the problem, however if you choose which startup stuff you install wisely, the problem won't be there

When I click on the link to download hijackthis I get a security warning saying that the site is not verified and could be dangerous, which is a bit alarming.

I am sure it must be OK as you posted the link, but just wanted to check does it always give this message?
