Refund on airport transfer

Hello everyone,
Not sure whether this is the right forum to post this..I went to Egypt end of last month, i had to get a connecting flight to get to destination where the pick up from the airport was supposed to take place, but due to bad weather where i was catching the connecting flight, the flight was cancelled therefore i could not get to the other side. Instead I had to get a taxi which was like 2 1/2 hours drive to my destination.
In this situation am I entitled to part refund of the airport transfers ? as when we left we still did use them to drop us to the airport. I wrote the the company involved but have had no response.
Also would the Financial Ombudsman or any other organisation be able to help me in this matter ?
thanks very much
Missy

MissyKay,
it really depends on several factors on this, depending on what actually happened.
Firstly, was the transfer included as part of the package, or was it booked seperately.
was it a 'private' transfer, or a shared transfer.
Was there actually a cost for the transfer (as a lot of hotels in the Red Sea area of Egypt provide free transfers anyway).
If it was a pre-booked, and pre-paid for transfer, did you make them aware of the fact that you were not going to use the transfer? after all, if you didn't, and they still turned up to wait for you, they could effectively still charge you for it.
If you can provide a bit more information, we may be able to give you a better insight of your options.
Regards

If you didn't book as a package holiday and booked the original transfer separately - then NO. That's the gamble of creating a DIY type holiday.
Certainly approach the organiser of the transfer and see if they will refund (or part refund) the missed transfer - but it will be down to goodwill as they don't have to refund it if you booked this separate from the flights etc. Also would the Financial Ombudsman or any other organisation be able to help me in this matter ?
No - not if you created or DIY'ed this trip yourself.0 -
Hi all,
HXDAVE- it was shared transfer from Alexandria, when we were going because of fog in Cairo plane did not arrive in london so flight frm here delayed, once we got there the flight frm cairo to Alexandria was cancelled as there was fog at Alexandria airport so they had closed the airport, this is what one of the staff at the airport told us, first they said they will put us on a bus to Alexandria then no one would give us any information about what was happening. My mobile was dead and asked at the airport if we can contact the Transfer company as they would be waiting for us but they were not helpful. We spent whole night at airport not knowing what to do whether the flight will be going. After 9 hours at the airport there was a flight at 8.30am that was again cancelled as there was thick fog in Cairo, this started to clear about 10.30 and other flight scheduled were also cancelled. We had no choice but to get a taxi to Alexandria which was like 2 1/2 hours drive.
When leaving Alexandria the flight was delayed again due to dense fog therefore this kind of weather is normal for that side of egypt and the transfer company would of been aware of these kind of situations.
The hotels we stayed at did not offer airport transfers as i tend usually book them also as we went to multiple destinations we were not able to book a package holiday.0 -

The Financial Ombudsman Service has nothing to do with travel unless you are claiming reimbursement through an insurance policy OR that there is a joint and several liability under the Consumer Credit Act 1974 and claiming against your credit card provider or other lender.0 -
Missykay, my only advice would be to contact the company who you booked the transfers through, to see what their T&C's are, and see what they may be able to do for you.
As for not being able to book a 'package' due to multiple destinations, then there are companies out there who ae able to book multiple destinations, allbeit depending on the destinations you wish to visit.
