New Laptop advice?

I've bought a new laptop to use in our new house when we move in a couple of weeks.

We've never owned a laptop before only ever desktop PC's, and wondered if any more experienced laptop users could give advice on what to use with it.

I was thinking of buying one of those neoprene soft cases for it.
would I need any sort of keyboard cover or screen protector?

Would I need a mouse, are they easier than using the finger pad?

I'm thinking that I can hook it up to out existing wireless router on the main PC (the laptop has built in wireless), and using a free virus program on it.

Could I print from the laptop to the printer on the main PC?

It will only be used in our home by adults and an older child.

Is there anything else i'm missing?.. any advice welcome.

you can print on the main priner if the main PC is turned on

if the new laptop has windows 7 and the other PC xp then its a bit more involved (involves dropping the security levels on the Win 7 machine from 128 bit so they can see each other and changing the network group from "homegoup" to "MSHome" on the Win 7 Laptop)

you just need to enter the wireless key from existing router

Avast is one of the best anti-virus installs/ ditch ie in favor of Firefox too/ yes, using a nice ergonomic mouse is far better i find /prevents risk of rsi too/
