Travel agents insurance the best?

Hi
Hoping someone can advise me and possibly save me a few pounds in the process
I already have my holiday booked to the Canaries in Aug 2011. It's myself, hubby and 2 children (who will be 6 and 2 when travel if that makes a difference or not). Thomas Cook have quoted me approx 50 pounds for the weeks insurance. Not sure what cover it includes but surely I can find something cheaper? Or is it best to stick with the agent?
Thanks

Insurance from the TA is rarely good value for money. Go to the Insurance tab at the top of the page as a starting point.
You need to read the policy to ensure that it provides the cover you need, they are not all the same and the cheaper policies usually have very high excesses. Do not choose a policy on price alone.0 -
First mistake is you've bought the holiday and have no insurance, so if anything happens you've lost at least the deposit for all 4 of you so thats approx £600 down the drain, which makes the £50 look cheap. TA insurance is dearer its partly because of the convenience of being able to get it there and then so you're covered immediately, also if you need to make a claim the travel agent will help you out with form filling etc. My advice to you is if you haven't found an insurance provider yet is take the TA insurance as soon as they open today, then spend the next few days researching the internet for insurance, find one thats reasonable in price and good cover and not too high excesses, if you find 1 your happy with purchase it and then go back to the travel agent and cancel theirs as you have a 14 day money back guarantee. As Luci says dont go for the cheapest as the excesses can be as much as £300per person per claim.0

Bearing in mind that although you have a legal right to the 14 day cooling off period for insurance contracts, the insurer is legally allowed to charge you an admistration fee to cover the costs that they incurred in setting up the policy, and also to make a charge for the period that the cover was in place.
Not all insurers make charges, but it would be worth finding out about these first if you do decide to do as steph suggests above.0
