Hi im currently in the process of renting a property in brentwood essex has anyone got any advice to what the area is like as since paying the holding fee to the agent ive started hearing horror stories about the area the road we are planning on moving to is lime avenue which is part of something called eastham estate i think,
i have compared crime rates to redbridge where we live now and they seem better but im finding more and more people online saying areas to avoid in brentwood "eastham estate" i was just wondering if anyone has any first hand experiance of this area as im not paying £2000 deposit to move to an area worse than we are now(we are moving due to anti social behaviour and drugs are out of control here) any help advice would be great....

Your best bet would be to phone the local police station and ask them about the road, they are the ones who will know.0 -
I haven't lived in that area for 20 odd years so I can't help with current situation as to who else lives there, but it's a very small 'estate', mainly family houses, and it's in the middle of some quite posh areas, it's close to both the town centre and a rural part of Brentwood, nice place in a geographical sense.Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j
OU student: A103 , A215 , A316 all done. Currently A230 all leading to an English Literature degree.
Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.0 -

I lived on the Eastham Estate for a year... it's not as bad as it's made out to be(though I grew up in E London) Brentwood is like anywhere- good areas and bad areas. On the Eastham Estate the area around the parade of shops in the middle isn't great, and the pub is dire(The Chough, I believe) but in general it's not the worst place ever, and Lime Avenue isn't near those- it's right on the outskirts of the estate in my eyes. You'll be nearer the Orchard Avenue shops(say Hello to Jay, nice shopkeeper!) Compared to somewhere like Romford, to me personally, I felt safe, never had any trouble what so ever. You'll get your fair share of rowdy boy racers like any estate but the police always seem pretty decent in Brentwood. Finishing work and walking home at midnight neither me nor my girlfriend ever had any issues at all. As for people saying avoid it, well yeah, ideally it'd be much nicer living on Park Lane, having a nice house overlooking Hyde Park, but in a realistic world it's not so bad.0 -
brentwood is fine, i live near brooke street roundabout, the high street can get quite busy and its popular of an evening but is a nice area, now proud mum to 3 handsome boys :j latest one born 10/10/11:j0

Brentwood is fine. Spent a lot of my life there & just in the process of moving back because I'll feel safer living there than closer to London. Lime Avenue should be fine - not the best part, but not the worst either, Good luck

thanks for the great advice everyone, i think we will give it a go as coming from redbridge (near ilford) it does seem 100x better maybe not perfect but where is at the moment after heeding the advice mentioned earlier i rang the local pcso and as someone else stated we are just outside enough from the really dodgy part to be ok, and i suppose i shouldnt have read the news about the area as it was always going to bad, i cant imagine the news reporting on good things as luck would have it after three months we can get out of the 12 month contract at a small fee so if it is really bad we can always move again0

Just found your post when searching Lime Avenue and wondering how you are getting on? I'm thinking of moving to Brentwood myself from Havering but some of the crime rates are higher than I thought they would be. I used to live in Brentwood over 15 years ago and it doesn't seem as quiet as it used to be.0 -
I'm moving there too - just exchanged today. Currently living in East London. Going to Warley... check out the police.uk site (sorry if wrong, going from memory).
It's not crime free, but nowhere is. It's way under half the crime statistics for where I currently live though. I'll take me chances...!
Brentwood is trendy in places and there will always be a certain amount of 'trouble'. Surely it's inevitable with a High Street, pubs, bars, club, etc. There are 'dodgy' parts in most towns. You just have to do your homework first. Generally, Brentwood has a pretty good reputation.
Where in Brentwood are you thinking of moving to?

Having moved from Romford to Brentwood myself(as I may have stated earlier in this thread), I would choose Brentwood as the nicer place to live. Far, far less trouble than Romford/Hornchurch/Elm Park/Collier Row/Harold Hill/etc. In fact, I never had a single issue in Brentwood while living or working there.0
