    :D Beautiful!
    Squirrel!
If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
    Now 20% cooler

So you do less than 5,000 miles a year? Then it is not worth having a depreciating object sat rusting on the drive

I work for a fairly large company who write and administrate warranties for white goods manufacturers. I work in sales, so I spend a lot of time talking to customers on the phone about renewing plans, that sort of thing.

Something I hear a lot about from customers is the 2-year EU law which apparently states that all machines are protected for that amount of time. It seems unlikely that this is the case, since that would render our sales department far less successful than it actually is. When I asked my manager about it, he told me that it doesn't apply to the UK at the moment, and that the manufacturer isn't obliged to provide a free service for more than 12 months.

I can't find any official word on the subject online, so I was hoping someone could show me and help clear this up for me. I don't like providing bad customer service and it's frustrating not to have a clear answer about it.

    Thank you!
Isn't it up to your company to give you the training on what you tell your customers, you must surely have a company sales pitch.
If you go offering something your claims department are not willing to uphold then that is bad customer service. Your intenions may be right but offering something you can't deliver is going to get you into trouble with your superiors.

On a serious note, what you should be aware of http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukdsi/2008/9780110811574/schedule/1, specifically practice 10.

This means you really need to gen-up on your consumer law.

Huh? Are you saying that it isn't in force? If so you are a tad out - they came into force in May '08

I'm not sure I understand you. You are referring me to a link that says

    "Citation and commencement

    1. These Regulations may be cited as the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 and shall come into force on 26th May 2008."

...so you are agreeing with me? You made a small error above?
