Avast slowing webpages

Recently had upgrade to adsl2+, plus removed old version of AVG and installed latest Avast, BUT on testing using speedtest.net and top10 speed tests, results were poor, 7.1 or less on downloads, should be much higher.

Used another computer with latest AVG and speed tests gave around 12.88 at the same sites.

Back to original computer, re-did tests in safemode with network, no AV etc, and speeds around 12+.

Restarted in full mode, I had the feeling it was either zonealarm, or avast. shutdown zone alarm, no difference, looked around Avast and found there is WEBShield that scans http traffic. I stopped this and speeds went from the 7.1 back to 12.88.

System now running nice and fast without Avast webshield.

Despite bloat on AVG, (that does not seem to slow webpage browsing) I may go back to AVG.

Perhaps some of you using AVAST would like to check to see if you get similar speed differences or not.

I recently switched from Avira to Avast having become annoyed at the former's inability to update itself - a bug that seemed easy to fix, but that they appeared to have no interest in fixing. I also found that Avast was slowing down web browsing and have now switched off all of its 'shields' except File System and Behavior.
