Expedia and Connecting Flights?

Been looking at holidays to New York for the summer, and come across a decent deal on Expedia, however after having a bad experience of missing a connecting flight in the past, I was just wondering whether:-

1) If 1hr 5 mins is enough to get from a domestic flight to a long haul flight both within Terminal 5 of Heathrow?

2) If for whatever reason we were to miss our connecting flight, will Expedia put us on the next available flight? (All flights through BA)

Have always booked up everything separate in the past, so have never used a company like Expedia before; thanks for any help in advance

Personally I would build in more of a gap if possible.
  • Can't comment on connection times in T5 but as for point 2:

Expedia are a booking agent and it won't be them who look after you - it will be BA.

If you miss your connecting flight because of a failure by BA or the airport (delayed flight, airport closure, etc), then BA will put you on the next available flight.

If you miss your connection through any fault of your own (eg, you turn up at the airport late), then BA have no obligation to do anything for you (unless you pay a premium for a fully flexible ticket)

If you have booked a through ticket and you miss your connection, the airline has a responsibility to you. This means they will book you on the next available flight and provide accommodation if necessary. If you've booked two separate flights then the airline has no responsibility to you and its down to you to make sure you have enough time to get the second flight.

All airlines have minimum connection times for changing flights, book flights separately with less time than this (known as hot flights) and you are on your own if things go wrong. You shouldn't be able to book a though flight with less time to connect than the minimum allowed by the airline.

Worth knowing that higher classes of travel sometimes mean shorter minimum times as you can use the fast track service between terminals and quicker security.

See here for info on connecting flights at Heathrow:

??? - well isn't that a lesson learnt about tight connection times?

Why not look for a slightly longer connection time, then just casually relax at LHR with a coffee and a good book, rather than worry about rushing around and missing your onward flight.
