Bit of my house has fallen on my car :(

My OH went out to the shed today and noticed a bit of harling/render lying on the bonnet of my car. On closer inspection, several pieces have come away from the house close to the roof and one has left a large dent in the wing of my car.
It seems obvious to me it has been caused by the snow and ice getting behind the render and then melting.
However my insurer has said I am not covered for my car and it's likely the house won't be covered as it probably came off due to old age! The house is 60 and was reharled about 7 years ago.
They always seem to find some excuse!
Its a double whammy having to get both repaired.
Can anyone help with exactly why the damage to my house may not be covered?????
Oh yes and why do I bother paying insurance:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

It sounds like they are saying it's a maintenance issue.
I don't even know what harling is I'm afraidd or how long it should last, but you need to read your policy to see whether it's covered or not.
If you can't find anything and you don't think the age or lack of maintenance is an issue then ask the insurer why it isn't covered and ask them to refer you to sections/pages in your policy so you can understand it.Oh yes and why do I bother paying insurance
Fire, flood, burglary etc.
The cover should be clearly specified and you should have had plenty of time to read it.0 -
The House Insurance will cover specific perils for the house eg fire, theft and accidental damage etc, it will also include Liability cover for damage to other people / property but not your own property.
Your options for the repair to the car are pay for it yourself or make a claim on your car insurance if you have comprehensive0 -
FYO Harling is a scottish term I think for pebble dash type covering. The render goes on and then wee stones are applied.
The original coating lasted 53 years and we only renewed it as a lot of the stones had come off over the years. So I would expect the new coating to last more than 7 years.

If it's caused by ice then I think you need to check your policy in more detail.
The bit about old age does not seem to apply here.0 -
So I need to prove that it did not just fall off due to wear and tear. Four of my neighbours had their house done at the same time so don't know if that will help (if bits of theirs have not fallen off!)
Its just a bit annoying that the one event requires 2 claims and 2 excesses. But hey ho thats how it works:(:(:(
At least its only a small patch that needs repairing on the house.A lady was on TV last week saying a whole wall and carport had fallen down (on her car) due to the weight of the snow and her insurers said she wasn't covered.:j I love bargains:jI love MSE0 -

Only if she didnt have Comprehensive cover on her car0 -
having been a claims handler your issue with the roof and damage to the car is due to poor maintenance of your roof. there is no way that you can specify that the cold spell has caused this .... water penetration over a short period of time would not cause this
insurers will reject this....
your car claim would be claimed against your car insurance..
however if something fell off your roof and damaged a neighbours car they could claim your house insurance0
