Thunderbird Update Problem

I've just downloaded Thunderbird 1.5.0.7 over a previous version (1.0.something) which seemed to unzip and install OK but when I try to start it I get the message
A previous install did not complete correctly. Finishing install.
I now cannot get at my emails. What should I do? If I try uninstalling Thunderbird completely and starting from scratch will I lose my emails (which are not backed up)?

I don't think so, but don't do it until someone more knowledgeable agrees.
The emails are stored somewhere in Application Data, and folders in there don't seem to be removed on uninstalling the relevant program. I still have a Thunderbird folder in there even though the program isn't on here at the moment.
But maybe you could make a back-up copy of that folder just in case, then swap the folder names if the other one has a problem.
edit - ah, there are two Thunderbird folders, one in Application Data, one in Local Settings/Application Data0 -
Thanks for your advice. It seems to have spontaneously sorted itself out and is working now. Must have been responding to the curses and threats of being replaced by Outlook Express. I'm now going to (belatedly) back up the messages.0
