Put the Orange Sim in your new phone and see what happens .
Porting is the network moving a phone number between networks . If your phone is unlocked and you are keeping the orange number porting is not needed .

Strangely enuogh,i was going to ask same question.

Not hijacking,it may cover points on same subject !

A friend has a new orange phone and is currently on O2 PAYG. Apparently if you transfer the O2 number to orange, you get £20 credit from Orange. In order to do this, apparently she needs a pac code from O2. Is it a seamless transition,or will there be a loss of service for any length of time?

Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

You need the PAC number, yes. You then give this number to O2 and request that they port your number.

You can put either SIM in the new phone, it doesn't matter, I'd probably keep the Orange SIM in there so I can continue to receive calls. At some point the Orange SIM will stop working and you can put the O2 SIM in there.

There may be a further delay at O2s end, so it may be necessary to reboot the phone a few times, but eventually your O2 SIM will start receiving calls on your old number.

    Did just this recently.

I called Orange on my payg, went through some security, they send PAC by mail within 48hrs.

Some claim to receive it over phone, but I called on a Saturday morning and received it on the Tuesday.

I called O2 with PAC, they tell you when you'll be changed over, and that you'll lose service for a few hours, but in reality it was much less.
    Move along, nothing to see.
