Landlord Insurance recommendations please

Can anyone recommend a landlord insurance policy? We've currently only got a general household policy with a few extras added and they know we rent it out, but I'm looking for a more comprehensive policy. Which one do you have and what's covered? Any advice would be great. Thanks

As with all insurance the key is to shop around looking at price, the level/limits of cover, and the small print for exlusions.

Most landlords associations (RLA NLA etc) have recommended providers with discount deals for members.

    Or look at Landlordzone

I've been happy with Paragon in the past but depends on your requirements.

I hve been happy with Legal and General, but again, it depends on your specific requirements.

Give Ashburnham a call for a quote, they are a brokers but I have an insurance policy with them as mine is not a "standard" insurance and it throws a lot of the normal companies but these understood my needs.

Just taken out a LL policy with Ashburnham, good price but the proof would come in the event of a claim. Has anyone claimed on an Ashburnham policy? Might be interesting to know.

Try Alan Boswell - discount on their premiums if you are signed up to LL Law or to the NLA.

  • Thank-you for all your advice. Have been getting a couple of quotes today, but none of the offices are open. I just need to confirm a couple of bits and will be trying again at 9 in the morning.

  • sorry to hijack, but I have a similar question, I have buildings insurance that is pretty good vis my freeholder which is my local authority, it covers all the usual, is there a good landlord policy that would be of use in addition to this buildings policy i have or do you think a standard buildings insurance (they are aware I am renting out the property) is sufficient?

Depends what cover they provide. What does "covers all the usual" mean? Usual for domestic insurance or for landlords?

Ashburnham have cancelled my policy, I got a letter today stating that my policy had been cancelled on 19th January as I had not contacted them about a period of unoccupancy. In fact I had rung them and told them the property was let and details of the tenants on 17th January. I was told new documants would be sent out. What kind of a firm can leave their customers without cover for 10 days before informing them?
