Getting software for my new lap top

Hi Folks

I bought a lap top for my kids for Xmas with no software on it. I would now like to get a copy of e.g. Microsoft Office 2007 or 2010, for the kids to practice on and get more familiar with.

Do you know of any cheap retailers in the UK or any good internet sites where I could get one from?

Thanks in advance for your response.

same but not identical interface/ probably not as capable/extensive as Office 2010/

Also, remember that 2010 comes in different versions/ different prices /

Openoffice is another free alternative, which runs on all major platforms.

What's wrong with actually answering the OPs question? He asked about Office and not an alternative with incompatibilities.

With schoolkids, the schools are already using office so the obvious choice must be to go for Office. A few school lessons use Publisher, a format which none of the other options given above can cope with.

I think hotmail allows you to use office for free on their site...

Just checked: it allows word, excel, powerpoint and onenote notebook.

Also can't remember the site but I think microsoft has a website where you can use office... it's the latest version or perhaps a beta version.

The OP asked for a copy of e.g. MS Office. As both the free alternatives suggested are examples of Office type software they comfortably satisfy as answers to that question.

The obvious choice is not always the best choice!

Where did the OP mention school?
