Hello...
Use my PC at home for work & sometimes our technical lot ask for 'remote access'-I'm usually here but would not want them seeing i search for 'holly valance naked' (!-you get the picture!) as all entries appear when you just type 1 letter in google!
Autocomplete isswitched off in ie properties-I also clear the 'index.dat' file to clear any entries re: on-line banking, work credit card authorisations...etc.....
Anyone know the answer to the above & how to REALLY delete all files & evidence of what's been typed?? & also the google problem?
Thanks!
Chris

What browser are you using? If its IE6 then try the following:
1.Click start
2. Control Panel
3. Internet Options
4. Click on the tab that says Content
5. Click on the button that says Auto complete
6. Then click on clear forms.
Hope that helps.0 -
Also, in Google, when the list of previously typed searches appears, highlight each entry separately and press 'delete'.0

before I started using Firefox I used Abosluteshiled Inernet Eraser Lite (Lite=free version)

(I see they have a new version so it may have changed)
The one problem is that the free version didn't allow you to erase temporary internet files (where the pictures from all web pages are stored) so you have to do that manually:
Tools/internet options/Delete Files
If you can download the Firefox browser, it has one button to clear everything!0 -
Thanks! turned off autocomplete for forms & manually erased search entries.
Seems to have done the trick.
I also have a programme that 'overwrites' the index.dat files-surely my computer is now 'watertight' for data retrieval??! I also delete history, cookies, internet temp files....etc
Thanks!

If you have WinXP Pro, you can permanently disable auto-complete via:
Start -> Run
Type 'gpedit.msc'
User Config
Admin Templates
Windows Components
Internet Explorer
Then you Enable: 'Disable Auto-Complete for Forms'
That way no one can re-enable auto-complete in internet explorer.0 -
Thanks for that!
Have done it now.
Does the 'free internet eraser' that i have that overwrites the 'index.dat' files mean that my system is REALLY 'erased' of all tracks?
I suppose as my internt connection & server is a company one my mails/surfing history, etc can be retrieved if the 'powers that be' REALLY wanted to sss them??
Kind regards,
Chris0
