Halifax 0% offer - can I pay off balance and make another 0% transfer?

Merry Christmas everybody!
I have a 0% existing customer balance transfer offer from Halifax (the previous 0% rate ended only last month). The offer expires on the 31st of December.
Another credit card (Virgin) 0% period is about to come to an end.
Would it be possible to pay-off the Halifax card (from my current account) and then transfer the Virgin balance to the Halifax card at 0%?
How long will it take for the payment to go through? If I do manage to get it all done in time, will I pay off the existing balance or the 0% balance (meaning that I'd be no better off) (in fact, worse off - since I'd be paying the 3% transfer fee)?????????
I know in the past the lowest APR debt was paid-off first, so you had to wait for a statement showing zero balance before you could make another 0% balance transfer, but am I right in thinking that things have changed???
Thanks for any replies

You should, by now, have had your first statement since this change. If you look at the summary box on the reverse of page 1 you'll find the revised order shown (in large bold print).0
