Barclaycard - dodgy website?

Just went to log into the Barclaycard Website, and it failed, twice. Thought it was weird, was putting my details in a third time and thinking maybe I'd changed the password and forgotten, when I noticed it was requesting a passcode of 6 digits. The last time I logged in, the passcode was 8 digits - has been for ages (possibly a couple of years now), I remember it changing. I'm wondering if they've changed the login routine - and possibly not told people - or if the website is so flakey that somehow I've got hold of a cached page. I cleared everything out of the browser cache and tried logging in again with the 6 digit passcode, but it still said failed login and locked me out.

Checked at the time that I was on the Barclaycard secure site (https) so I don't think I've been had, unless someone was doing a sophisticated DNS hack, which is unlikely. Anyone else had a similar problem?

It's been 6 digits for as long as I can remember (and that's at least 18 months). Are you mixing it up with your password?
  • Very possibly... which is rather scary, given that I've been logging into the website regularly, and the last time I logged in was less than a month ago!!

I know I've been stressed lately, but that's like going to a car park and trying to get in the wrong car because it looks like the one you had a couple of years ago! At least it means my data's secure though. :)
  • Yep, two boxes on the log-in page:

Username or ID number: (help says to enter either your 8-16 character username or 9 digit ID number)

Passcode: (help says its 6 digits)

Next screen you enter two characters from your memorable word via drop down lists.

Been that way for at least a year or so.
  • Yeah, problem solved, it was me being a spanner. :doh:Thanks for your help, folks.

Still don't know why I thought the passcode was 8 digits... turns out I'd changed the password a couple of months ago, which is why the login failed - but I didn't remember changing it and didn't remember the new one! :D All sorted now though.

If it's of any use to anyone: the 24-hour Barclaycard freefone number is 0800 9177277 and they will transfer you through if you need the Internet helpdesk, but that's only open from 8am to 10pm (UK time, though it's still in India). When you telephone, you'll need your normal security passcode - they call it the same thing, but the phone one is your date of birth (the internet one never is).

Maybe the 3D secure/Verified by Visa thing (pops up sometimes when you use the card online) - think that has to be 8 characters.
