water defrosting in pipes

Can anyone tell me what this should sound like? Have been hearing for the past couple of hours what could only be described as 'belly-rumbling' from around my house, the same type I get when I knock the heating on or use the immersion. Speaking of the heating, it's oil and has been off now for 5 days, tried it earlier and the circulation pump looks cracked at the front and is emitting a clicking noice every second or so (presumed broken). Worse than this, the boiler stayed on for about 5 minutes - normally it was just conking out 20 secs after switch on in this weather - and all of a sudden I saw steam leaving pipes where CH enters the back of my house. After this there was a continual running of water off the bottom of the pipe, but this fluctuated. Do you think this could mean a burst pipe behind the lagging? Or could it just be melted ice breaking down further on up and running away?

If all of the pipes into and out of the boiler have ice plugs, then it could be expensive and dangerous to run the boiler. Check that the pipes are not frozen first.
