This "warning" is still spreading around the country. This is one example from the "This is Local London" website :-
Parcel scam hits Bounds Green
BOUNDS Green residents are being warned to be vigilant about a phone scam in the area.
Cards from a company called ParcelDelivery Service (PDS) are being posted through letterboxes saying that a parcel had been unable to be delivered and telling residents to contact the company on 09066611911.
The Bounds Green Safer Neighbourhood Team are urging people to not call the the premium rate number as simply dialling the number and listening to a recorded message leads to a bill of £15.
That "Safer Neighbourhood Team" is actually operated by the Metropolitan Police who appear to be happy to pass on any old information without making any checks. Do they investigate crime the same way ?What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0 -
Sorry if this is a known scam, but better safe than sorry...
I received this email from a colleague today and hope by posting it here it may save someone from making the mistake of calling:
(Name and Company of sender has been removed to avoid advertising)
Dear All,
I have received information that a very old scam appears to have been resurrected again this year, please be aware, details below;
Subject: Postal Scam
> Postal Scam
>
> Can you circulate this around especially as Xmas is fast approaching - The Trading Standards Office are making people aware of the following scam:
>
> A card is posted through your door from a company called PDS (Parcel Delivery Service) suggesting that they were unable to deliver a parcel and that you need to contact them on 0906 6611911 (a premium rate number). DO NOT call this number, as this is a mail scam originating from Belize.
>
> If you call the number and you start to hear a recorded message you will already have been billed £15 for the phone call.
>
> If you do receive a card with these details, then please contact or ICSTIS (the premium rate service regulator) at www.icstis.org.uk
Kind regards
Head of Security

Your reply on the other thread about this "warning" has been noted. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0

The 0909 number would cost £1.50p a minute to call if it was still working. You would have had to ring it for 10 minutes to incur a £15 charge.
Their have been similar versions of it using a 10p a minute 0871 number and a 070 personal number.0 -

Be aware of big fat bloke, red suit, long flowing white beard with a friendly bearing and a knack of winning over children with the promise of gifts (batteries not included). Known to travel by some kind of horse drawn vehicle or similar and to openly flout air traffic control regulations, especially around midnight on Dec 24th. Can often be heard goading the authorities with his call of "Ho! Ho! Ho!". If sighted do not approach.
Wanted in connection with aforementioned air traffic offences, breaking and entering to include criminal damage to numerous chimney stacks and fireplaces, operating a horse drawn vehicle whilst under the influence of Sherry.
Accomplice, identified only by his shiny nose, (And if you ever saw him, you would even swear it glows) wanted for questioning regarding fouling of rooftops. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0 -
