Spam E-Mail being sent EVERYWHERE from my domain ?

Folks,

I have my own domain name which I use to re-direct e-mail and my homepage simply points to my page on last.fm

BUT ... some git is spamming loads of people and I am getting loads of 'mail not delivered / blocked' being sent to my default e-mail account (Hotmail) from these people / companies which have been sent the junk.

The messages appear to be coming from 'random characters' @ my domain name so they look like they're from me,

There's no harm done so far but I am getting about 20 bouncebacks going straight into my hotmail junk folder and it's a bit annoying,

Any ideas ??

Thanks,

Musicboy.

If you own your own domain name you need to change your settings so that only mail that is addressed to your specific email address gets to you. You can do this from website of the hosting company where you manage your domain. That way you will only get ones that have the correct email address and the rest will be bounced. By default they accept anything that is followed by @youdomainame.com.

Alternatively just ignore it, I get this on my account and at first I got loads of these, now it seems to have dropped to 5 or 6 a day.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

    1. Don't have a catch all address.
    2. SPF
    3. Train your SPAM filter to automatically delete the messages.

    Cheers folks !

There is a spam filter on the host website (I have just found out) so I have set that to see if it reduces, however it warns the following -

    * If you create a catch-all address for your domain name, any email sent to a non-existent alias will be forwarded to the address you enter above. Please be aware that creating a catch-all address may increase the volume of spam received.

but it won't allow me to remove the catch-all address ! I have left it alone anyway so I will see how much my junk folder fills up from now on ...

    Thanks again !

It could be that someone that has your proper email address has a virus on their server, which spoofs the messages as if they were from you.

I've had that before at the last company I worked for, constantly being spammed by external sources saying that I was sending out virus emails or bounce backs. Unfortunately there's nothing you can do to prevent those emails being generated as it's coming from someone elses infected machine.
