Since I had my gallbladder removed and a loooong old course of antibiotics I've not had a re-occurrence of the problems with acid reflux so it's now a case of being careful about what I eat. I don't drink soda, or sugary drinks but I do have a mysterious weakness for Tropicana (yes I know it is full of fruit sugar) that I'll either have to curb or follow up with a glass of water. Also I have this problem with erm, chocolate retention.

It makes sense that I'd want to make sure everything else is ok before braces, build on strong foundations and all that. So I think my plan will be to get my course of work completed in Hungary, and then as you suggest look around for a good practice here and then speak to them about braces. No special toothpaste was mentioned. I did get given a blue disclosing tablet and was told to clean as I normally did and then take another look. What a mess - the inside of my mouth looked like I'd been massacring smurfs...

Sorry but a glass of water after tropicana will do nothing , acid attacks your teeth an hour after eating or drinking even a tiny amount of sugar. chewing a piece of cheese might help though! Tropicana has around 7 teaspoons of sugar per glass!!!!!!! Try to go for no more than 3 sugar/ acid attacks a day, don't brush for an hour after eating/ drinking anything acidic .

Keep using the disclosing tablets, floss and interdental brushes .

I tell a lie.... tropicana juices typically have 40g of sugar per glass.... 8 teaspoons, that's more than coke which is around 35g 7 teaspoons.

You should think about doing a diet sheet over three days with everything that you eat and drink and the times that you do so. I would bet that there are lots of little sugar/acid attacks eg yoghurt, dried fruit?
  • Eek. I have a large glass of orange in the morning. Well no more buying that then. I have natural yoghurt as well. Oh my. Good idea on the diet sheet, I'll jot all this down and start seeing what is what.

I very much like cheese however. I can see some snack swapping is going to occur.

May I ask - why not brush for an hour after eating the acid/sugary thing?

Because you will brush the acid into your teeth and destroy them quicker by a combination of abrasion(rubbing acid in with the bristles of the brush) and acid erosion.

Better to brush first thing before breakfast and at least an hour after last meal if acid things eaten /drunk (citrus fruit, white wine, fruit juices , anything with bubbles, etc etc).
  • Hi<
I also need £12,000 worth of work done, thats the quote I have had from 2 Dentists here in england. I am leaning towards going to Poland as they have very high standards of Medical and Dentistry over there. However, friends have said that I am mad going abroad for treatment but £12,000 is a lot of money to find. I would welcome any replies from people who have been successfully treated abroad.

    Many thanks

Bit vague as you have not stated what work is needed. How do you know it would be cheaper?

  • So I'm back at Kreativ in Hungary and have just had some fillings and a root canal redone. They have decided that before I get any other treatment (the crowns etc) I must get my bite corrected at home and have a brace. The implantologist here said that I might not even need an implant because the gap might close depending on the treatment and that it was pointless to replace the top root canal because the orthodontist might choose that poorly molar to remove in order to make space. I've been told that getting my crowns done without correcting my underlying problem would only ensure I have problems all over again in ten years or so :(

So - my question is - how on earth do I find a GOOD orthodontist? I don't care if I wear train tracks again as I'm not vain, but do your teeth need to be in reasonably good condition to support them? Everywhere I've spoken to seems very keen on this Invisalign but trying to find independent information about it from somewhere that isn't trying to sell it to me, is quite hard.

My front teeth aren't hugely crooked - they just don't meet when I bite.
