Ive just got back a few weeks ago and what KonkyWonkys says is true.

I saved a fortune by using Pesos to pay and book things. They load the Dollar rate to cover themselves.

All you do is ask for price in Pesos which nearly everywhere advertises anyway.

We took pesos and found we got a better deal by paying in pesos than US$. The staff we became friendly with preferred being tipped in pesos as it is their everyday currency and easier for them to spend.

One barman told us they only take dollars as lazy Americans can't be bothered to get their money changed and expect everything to be just as it is in America. This was just after an American had shouted at him as the hotel didn't serve Budweiser so he may have just been ranting for rantings sake!
Here I go again on my own....
  • Thanks for the replies. I originally exchanged to dollars with the idea that what was not spent could be used when I go America this year. And as such I wouldn't lose twice on the exchange. Thomsons were in the wrong as they gave false information. I have now been refunded after writing my experience on several websites. Someone at thomsons has decided they didn't want the bad publicity. It's just a shame the lengths I had to go to in order to get the money back. As I said I got a copy of the regulations and thomsons had misunderstood what was written.
Thanks again to everyone who replied
