Hi,
I am looking to replace a ceiling light but there are 4 red wires, 2 black wires and 2 earth wires connecting to the old ceiling light. I am looking for a 'kit' to connect the 4 red wires to one single red wire, the 2 black wires to one single black wire and the 2 earth wires to one single eath wire. Anybody know what is the connector/kit I need?
Then I can attach the single live, neutral & earth wire to my new ceiling light.

Usually these are all in a ceiling rose -- http://www.diydoctor.org.uk/projects/ceilingrose.htm
Always turn power off when working. If not confident don't do it yourself.0 -
Sounds like you need a electrician, not advice on how to do it.
Sorry if that sounds blunt but sometimes you have to just think how much damage you could do by simply trying to save a few pounds.0 -

Why do you want to connect the 2 black wires together ?
If you do that, expect problems.0 -
Sounds like a Loop in, if you didn't know that, Step away from the light and get a sparkie.
Move along, nothing to see.0 -
Spakkker thanks..there is a ceiling rose already and this hinders the installation of a flush ceiling light and in fact most other decorative lights..I have tried various ceiling lights but they would not fit around the existing ceiling rose. I was wondering whether there is another way round it.0

If the rose is in the way replace it with a junction box. There will be a floorboard cut-out screwed in place above the light if bedroom above or loft access needed

To do what you suggest means your not very familar with electrical circuits and I would advise you get a spark to do it. Technically your correct so far as connecting the wires together except 2 of the red wires form a switching circuit, connecting everything together means you've no way to turn the light on and off.0

look at this diagram you cannot do what you intend doing.

I agree with dawndriver and would add that if you only have two earth cables it is likely the switch isn't earthed and depending on the type of switch you have this needs rectifying.0
