Tefal Actifry or Philips Airfryer Advice please

After thinking about buying a Tefal Actifry for the best part of a year we took the plunge in October 2010 and bought one.
So far our only regret is not having bought one sooner. It makes lovely chips in about 35 minutes using just a spoonful of oil (and the house doesn't smell of chips afterwards).#Life isn't about waiting for the storms to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain #We must be willing to let go of the life we planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us #If you focus on what you have left behind, you will never see what lies ahead - Gusteau/RatatouilleGC 2022: £0/£2,500 total spend0 -
i have been looking into buying one of these but im thinking will it be another gadget i will use the odd time
does anyone know the cheapest place maybe i will treat myself
thankstoo foreign for diplomatic or PC answers, too poor for a sig0 -
Had an actifry since they came out
They are not and never where dangerous, there was a remote possibility that the fan could jam causing overheating and a mild amount of smoke but they would not catch fire, the tv program crapdog tried to replicate the fault but could not so deliberately broke one to cause fear and panic. They where redesigned a very long time ago anyway.
Mine is a first batch one (with the fault :rotfl:) is getting on for 2 years old and has been used 150-200 times faultlessly, it makes perfect healthy chips and wedges in a very reasonable 30 mins.
It has stained fairly badly thou in this time but its still the best gadget in the kitchen I have ever bought, if you want healthy food that is, chips on a diet WOOOHOOO
Oh and use extra virgin rapeseed oil, it has a very high burning point (less carcinogens) and is a lot healthier than even olive oil (with a great omega3 omega6 ratio) and tastes better too, lasts ages as you use very little

Thanks for all the replies
I have finally bought the Actifry family size.
Used it last night, an instant hit with the full family (for once) tried chips couldn't believe with such little oil that I had perfect chips and no horrible oil smell !0 -
Oh I forgot to mention I love the fact that it goes in the dishwasher too, the lid comes to bits to go in as well as the pan and turner.
One fab bit of kit, which, IMHO is worth the money. You never know how strong you are until you have no other option.0 -
Hiya,
Looking at buying one of these, not sure whether Actifry or Philips at the moment, but the Philips seems to be a bit cheaper.
Wonder about 1 thing though... anyone tried schnitzels in it? (ie meat in breadcrumbs)0 -
I am on actifry no.3. we love the chips and other foods cooked in our actifry, but it gets used a lot and parts break. the paddle has now broken on number 3 and I can`t use one from a previous machine because my son and daughter have taken parts for when theirs have broken.I have been using an actifry since they first came out, so around 4-5 years. because of all the breakages and the expense of replacing, I am thinking of trying the philips. It has good reviews and from what I`ve been told by someone who has one, the chips are just as good and it is more robust.0

As someone who lives with a large Indian family, I felt that an air fryer would be of little use. However after receiving one as a gift, we love to make onion bhajis in it! Onion bhajis made traditionally in a pan of fat, are bad for you, especially when you eat 4-5 at dinner. So by cutting the fat intake down to 1 spray of oil on each bhaji, it has made a biggest difference! Yet they taste near enough the same, just without the greasy mouth feeling after eating.
This review of the Philips Viva Airfryer demonstrates onion bhajis well: slinkystudio.info/reviews/philips-viva-airfryer-review0 -
I did have a actifryer.., it had to be replaced and broke again. I'm now back to a mini deep fat fryer. In my experience, they are just too expensive to be this unreliable.0
