Help with netbook, can't suss what's wrong?

Hi

Have got the kids for Christmas a netbook and all was working fine yesterday. Then today for some reason the keyboard wouldn't type, when we finally managed to get it working (not sure how or what we did) but now it appears we have set some sort of short cuts up as certain keys won't type and will bring specific pages up. Have gone through the troubleshooting guide but cannot seem to find anything. Can anyone help please?

The model is a Compaq Mini, if this helps.

yup that would sound good to me, before attempting to restore back to a previous position, if it is a function key for instance, then system restore won't help anyway

Num Lock on sounds a good guess to me.

Sounds about right. Accidentally hit the shift and control together.

Just make sure it is the above as sometime you can get a faulty keyboard!

The system restore worked fine, thanks, although must admit it's the first time we have used a netbook or laptop and the keyboard isn't as easy to read as a PC, have no idea where the num lock is and don't know what most of the symbol keys mean? I figured we had inadvertantly set up shortcuts as every time we pressed the T it brought up a set up box and R brought up a search bar or something.

always my first port of call , much easier than fuffing around trying to change back settings , plus if it fails to work once restored then you know its broke !
