  • Hello, I made foodie gifts to sell at a craft fair at Christmas which went very well, so will do again this year.

I am now gearing up for a spring/Easter fair and have got lots of ideas off this website - so thank you for that. I am wondering though if anyone knows where I can get long clear plastic tubes that can be filled with sweets for Easter gifts?

Any help would be much appreciated, I've wasted about half an hour trawling the internet when I should have come here where all the experts are!!

    wammy77,

Damson gin - 1 lb damsons, 6oz white sugar, 75cl gin & a scant teaspoon of almond essence.

Wash damsons & stab well with a fork.
Put into a sterilised wide necked jar or litre bottle - kilner type jars (or empty douie egbert coffee jars for 1/2 quantities) work well.
Pour in sugar, essence & gin.

Shake well every day until the sugar has dissolved then store in a cool, dark place for at least 3 months, or preferably a year. Don't leave it longer than a year or it will spoil.
Strain through muslin & decant into sterilised bottles, dark coloured ones if possible so it keeps it's colour. Leave in a cool, dark place again till needed.

This year's damson gin was made in 2008, decanted in 2009 & left in the attic till giving out at Christmas. The chutney was made in 2009 - the longer it's left, the better it tastes.

I don't have a proper recipe for the chutney as I tend to adapt to whatever fruits I have a glut of at the time but it's sort of based (loosely!) on a basic damson / plum chutney. Watch out for the stones though - they're evil!

    Enjoy
    :)

Thanks so much for this :D
Chuffed as last night I bought 3 x 10m rolls of wrapping paper for 13p each and 5 rolls of red gift ribbon for 13p too.

Told my sister to choose some thick chunky wool as it will be her crocheted beret, scarf and gloves for next Christmas ;) (actually, she seemed quite happy with that.. and the homemade hamper went down well too but she' asked for baileys fudge. How am I going to make baileys fudge!

The most delicious baileys fudge I've ever made is this:

    http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/68602/baileys-and-white-chocolate-fudge

It is more like tablet fudge so doesn't stick together, although it's crumbly so you'll need to score it just before it sets completely or leave it as one block ad wrap :)

It's really easy to do too!

If you google 'confectionery packaging wholesale' you get loads of results, and not all of them have a minimum order value. If they do you could find some where that does other packaging and get everything you need in one place - it'll save you a fortune too :)

I used to get all my nappy cake 'ingredients' from a wholesale baby wear supplier - everything matched colour-wise and it helped me to increase my margins to almost 55% mark up!

This company does a wide range of packing including the slim tubes - scroll down the page a little way to plastic flex tubes section :D

    Evening all,

I made fudge and truffles and homemade choccies for my family, and it all went down really well. I made boxes and different bags for my treats, and they were all impressed with those as much as they were with the chocolates :) All my stuff is on my blog, hope it helps someone, if any questions just ask :)

I wanted to go with the baileys fudge, and I think I will try it.

I got some stuff from boots for gifts including some chocolates that are ok until june. have left over Thorntons chocs as well, that will do gifts in March :)

Im going to make some crayon rolls, and a tote bag for A4 paper............ :)

    thanks.

There are some really simple fudge recipes that don't use a thermometer - just Google.:p
