Can you pay a cheque into a First Direct account at an HSBC branch?

First of all, I hope everyone has had a merry Christmas.
I've got a cheque for a significant sum of money from a settlement in a dispute, but I lost and subsequently cancelled my Santander card a few days ago. The new one will arrive well into the new year.
Can I take the cheque into an HSBC branch and pay it into my First Direct account there? This means I can pay the money in next Wednesday and have it available to use as soon as it clears. If not, I can still pay into the Santander account using my sort code and account number, but then will need to wait for it to clear, then wait for it to transfer into the First Direct account.

Yes or you can post cheques in. I posted on on Thursday afternoon and it was credited to my account on Friday morning.
They will supply you with post paid envelopes if you ask them to. Or you can ask them for a freepost address and save the cost of a stamp0 -

As others have said you can use HSBC branches for paying in or withdrawing money from First Direct.
If you have a FD pay-in slip, take one along or you can fill one in at the branch..
You can also use the in-branch machines to pay money in - you don't need to use the counter service - though you still need a completed pay-in slip.

Hi
I also wanted to pay in a large cheque into my FD account and went into a large HSBC branch last week. They informed me that they could take it from me but all they do is POST it to FD. They also said there have been a number of issues of cheques going missing so suggest i post it myself directly to FD as its for a reasonably large sum. I am dissapointed to hear this, is this a one off response or is its HSBC new approach.
I got the strong feeling that the relationship between HSBC and FD is not great.
I have asked FD to comment, but to post a cheque seems a little antiquated.
Any advice folks?

You were misinformed.
I regularly use HSBC to pay into my First Direct account and it shows (as uncleared) the same day.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. FD, needs to open some branches throughout the UK, cant always rely on HSBC to pay in cash.
Yes HSBC own them but still would be nice to see FD Branches where you can simply walk in open an account get a cheque book or credit card etc.
do FD, Branches exist? or am i living in the twilight zone?• HSBC (Main A/C)
• Halifax Back up A/C
• Lloyds (Spending) A/C
• RBS Back up A/C
• Barclays Old A/C
• Nationwide Old A/C0 -
First Direct is an online bank - why would they have branches? I post my cheques to them as I prefer that to having to go into town. If you prefer a physical High Street presence you'd need to use another bank.0
