That reminds me DfS were once taken to court for not selling a customer payment protection insurance and lost.

I bought a two seaters and a 3 seaters reclining sofas from DFS 2 years ago.
I wasn't offered an interest free credit and for some reason the price for the two sofas came to £2500 although it was advertised at half price. Half price of what? It seemed the sofas I chose were the most expensive of their whole range. But they couldn't tell me which branch was selling it at £5000.
Unfortunately I fell ill with shingles and when the sofas were delivered I couldn't check them as I was unable to get out of bed. It well well over 2 months before I managed to unwrap the sofas and I was struck by the poor quality of the leather and workmanship. Within 3 months I had the sofas repaired 3 times as they sagged, the cushions were not at the same height and worse of all the metal holding the sofa together broke. Today the sofas are in a sorry state. I was told the sofas were made in Italy but I don't believe it's true. My previous sofas were bought from Fenwicks and lasted me well over 15 years. I will never ever buy from DFS. The quality of their sofas is very poor and the workmanship very shoddy.

You might still be under garantee complain, complain £2500 is a lot to spend on furniture your not happy with.
A third of the furniture they sell comes from Italy ,I have never seen any real quality italian furniture in the uk to be honest.Seen plenty of German,Dutch and Belgian leather furniture but these are only sold by small independents.

really? I find that difficult to believe. What was the cause of action? Was it reported? I'm guessing that a case of that nature would have been noted somewhere.

I was told the story about five years ago by DFS own director of training at the DFS Redhouse HQ.
Customer buys 3pc suite on interest free credit, later on hes made redundant trys to make a claim under payment protection,DFS says you never bought any,yes I did said customer, (back and forward exchange of letters ends up in the small claims court)
The customer produces a stack of loans/credit arrangements all with payment protection policys that he has taken out over the years, and states Why would I take out all those policys and not on the DFS purchase,he won the case.
Ever since DFS staff write payment protection refused on the order form.DFS call it water proofing.

I think your first port of call is to check her credit file with all 3 credit reference agencies and see what checks they have made and what searches have been made and then see where the land lies

Oh, one of those court cases, or in the alternative, the consumer said he bought it, DFS denied it, and the consumer proved, on the balance of probabilities, that he did, and the judge was happy to believe that the salesman made an error. Not exactly being taken to court for not selling it, huh?
