Is the xbox 360 drive supposed to sound like a turbine?

Just started playing with my new xbox 4gb with kinect, and the drive sounds like a dryer on full cycle, new from morrisons
Setup the kinect, gone through the tutorials etc and just about to play it for the first time and when part way through loading adventures it asks to clean the disk.
Opened up the drive and the disk has big score marks in it. Cleaning kit made no difference.
Is the drive faulty? I don't have the receipt so not sure how I'd go about getting a refund now.

Yes, shouldn't do that unless its been knocked or moved whilst turned on with the disc in - were you jumping up and down at the time?
How did you pay for it or was it a present? If its a present then ask who got you it to refund it. If you bought it on credit or debit card, a copy of a statement usually suffices.0 -
Does sound like the drive and/or game disc has gone
Are you able to try another game or even DVD?
The newer xboxes are generally quieter but their fans are still fairly noisy - in your case, it does sound more drive/cd related
If the xbox is vertical, make sure the disc is seated properly - it's very easy to insert without doing this so when it spins, it's at an angle (which results in scraping noises)0 -
Just checked on both my sons new 360S's and they both sound like a dryer on full cycle when they're spinning up.0

my 360 slim is still noisey but nothing compared to my pervious full size machine. Not sure how big the game is but if you have enough space you could always install the game to the harddrive and then it wouldn't make so much noise.0
