Hi,
Hope you can help me assist my neighbour
They have basically bought a PS3 for their children and want to connect it up for online gaming
the trouble is although they are connected at the minute to the web via their router wirelessly, they have lost the WEP code for their connection and therefore cannot input the code when the PS3 asks for it
All I know is their ISP is talk talk - is it possible to reset their connection in anyway and even if it means making another connection
Hope somebody can help
Merry Christmas to you all

You can change/amend/remove the WEP key in router settings/BLOODBATH IN THE EVENING THEN? OR PERHAPS THE AFTERNOON? OR THE MORNING? OH, FORGET THIS MALARKEY!

Log into the router and change the Wep to WPA2
Wep isn't so secure.
I have an o2 box and don't broadcast my network name, (ssid)
use WPA2 wireless security with my own made up long key. Also there is an administrator password too to access my router.0 -
Wire the PC/laptop to the router before changing the wi-fi, it's a major hassle if you get it wrong and your PC goes offline.0

Would it be possible to post a step by step idiots guide please
I am not that IT savvy so am just going to print this thread off and give it them.
Am I correct in saying access router is the 192.168.#.#

Thanks for taking the time, particulary at Christmas0 -
What brand of router have you got?0

Its an echolife HG5200

I'm not familiar with that particular router but you could try the following:
1) attach a computer to the router using the ethernet cable
2) Open Web Browser
3) Navigate to "192.168.1.1"
4) Log on to the router - if it still has the default settings the user name and password will both be "admin"
5) Have a look round in the settings for the wireless security settings - as already mentioned change to WPA2 and set appropriate password
6) Update all computers on the network to the new password.0 -
scouselander is spot-on for the router address and login details
......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple
