Hi
I ve used microsoft money for a long time and i think its fantastic...you need to spend a fair bit of time setting it up accurately(which im a bit lazy at if im honest but im re setting it up now...long story:rotfl:
where it really is a gem is for helping to remember quarterly bills etc then after marked as paid it automatically re enters the next payment date
its got a very good debt planner that follows the snowballing principles which is great also....actually its got tons of features that you will either use or not as it depends on what suits you
it can all be done on spreadsheets of course but personally i like it and im stopping now cos i can feel myself just rambling on and on:rotfl:0 -

I use Microsoft Excel 'cos I customise them to how I want to look and I can have as much (or as little) information as I want to see. I can also create some fancy graphs :jDisclaimer: Any spelling mistakes or incorrect grammar is purely coincidental and in no way reflects the intelligence of the author.0

Hello all, this program is fantastic but one thing may sound obvious but get the UK edition,i`m using the 2004 edition,i think the latest doesnt have a UK edition but i could be wrong.(2006)
I have excel but couldnt get the hang of it dont want to be too tied up in having to learn the program routines and formulas etc too like algebra for me
Anyway Ms money is great once its been set up and you have to update it of course,it has a few quirks but once you know your way around its very useful in your budgets and is pretty good at predicting your cash flow you can predict what if scenarios like if i spend £100 now what about later on etc.
Ps i dont work for Microsoft if i did wouldnt be here
Regards M

I use it too but over time things seem to break! Probably me being rubbish. Useful to get a picture of how much money you have over time and stuff like that - it does lots of pretty graphs and charts and we all like them.LBM: Nov 2004 Debt Apr06: £19,273.46 (Highest)

Theres a Free 90 day trial of Money 2007 on the Microsoft website here
Unfortuantely its US dollars only but should be able to give you an idea whether it would work for you. If you decided to buy it you'd have do put everything in again from scratch.
Don't be tempted to try & get a "Free" copy from file sharing software like Limewire/iMesh etc though as they usually have been adapted with keystroke loggers & before you know it you've given someone full access to all your online accounts.0 -
GnuCash is the best0

I use MS Money 2004 and I swear by it too. (I've tried GnuCash on Linux, but not much point since I have Money). It cost me about £15 from amazon.
I track 9 accounts with it, and the most useful feature I find is the ability to catagorise everything - so you create report breaking down your spending by catagory in any given period. I've got data going back to 2002, so some of the reports are really telling! (since 2002, I've spent more in interest on my debts than I have on groceries...)
The budget features are useful, but I tend to find they're too inflexible. Savings goals and the debt reduction planner are great tools. There's all the tax and investment stuff in there too, but I've not had much call to use them! (being PAYE and BROKE)
My main account(s) are with HSBC, and importing my account into Money is a doddle. I go to "download these transaction", choose money format and hit download. Money automatically opens it and imports it. I just have to assign a catagory to each transaction (money will automatically assign some on repeat transactions, like fuel, groceries, cash withdrawals etc) and OK them. It doesn't duplicate entries either. My poor dad uses quicken and types in every transaction from receipts as he goes and then double checks it to his paper statements...
All in all, it's a great way to keep a track of where your money is and where it's going. I can't vouch for more recent editions as Money is one of those applications that MS probably doesn't profit much from, so gets fairly lackluste updates.Student Loan Company Ltd: 17,805 (2.8%) Overdraft: 500 (Interest free)

Well i allready have a copy of money 2004 which i got with my pc but have never tried it before.
Spent most of yesterday categorising and setting it up lol but it does look like it will be usefull.
For example i have a few DDD that come out of the bank on the 4th and 9th of the month - normally ive spent up by thatpoint so have to stop them or get bank charges
but using MOney i can now see on the 1st of the month what my "ACTUALL" account balance is with the above DD taken into consideration - so fingers crossed i shouldnt go over drawn this month

Cheers to everyones for their comments0
